Program Context and Mission Program Mission: To develop sport managers who are proficient writers and effective oral communicators, while fostering the personal growth and professional behaviors required for success in the sport management industry. Graduates will show mastery of principles, techniques and concepts of the sport management discipline through proper industry application and usage of each.
Program Goals:
Goal 1: Application of Connected Learning principles to the Sport Industry Upon completion of the major program of study in Sport Management, students will be able to:
1. apply classroom learning experiences to professional practices, duties and responsibilities and vice versa
2. demonstrate and display the ability to express professional growth strategies appropriate to the Sport Industry
3. evaluate and reflect on sport as a microcosm of society that both influences and is influenced by moral, ethical, economic, social, political and religious factors.
Goal 2: Best practices for professional behaviors within the Sport Industry Upon completion of the major program of study in Sport Management, students will be able to:
1. exhibit appropriate interpersonal communication skills with others.
2. demonstrate leadership, management, and administrative principles and practices specific to the Sport Industry
Goal 3: Problem-solving in the Sport industry Upon completion of the major program of study in Sport Management, students will be able to:
1. critically assess Sport Industry problems and use best practices in research methodologies to create possible solutions, and effectively report results (oral and written).
2. exhibit appropriate and successful use of technology and technological resources appropriate to the Sport industry.
3. critically self-evaluate the progression of their professional and personal growth with the use of technology as a tool for enhanced performance as a Sport Manager.
Goal 4. Research in the Sport Industry Upon completion of the major program of study in Sport Management, students will be able to:
1. demonstrate the theoretical and conceptual frameworks that guide the research process and the application of the research process to the Sport Industry
2. propose (oral and written) a research design, implementation, analysis, and assessment plan for solving problems, issues, or concerns unique to Sport Management education and the Sport Industry.
3. complete research processes using Qualitative, Quantitative, Mixed Methods, Action, or Project Management Research strategies as applied to the Sport industry.
Brief Description of Student Population: Traditional ages (18-22) primarily from New England region. Admissions Requirements: The Office of Undergraduate Admission holistically reviews each application for admission and selects from its applicants those students who are best qualified to benefit from a course of study at Lasell College. Many factors are considered when evaluating applicants for undergraduate admission: scholastic record; personal evaluations of the applicant submitted by faculty or counselors at either the secondary school or college/university level; scores on standardized tests; extracurricular involvements; personal statement or essay; and choice of academic program at Lasell. The Office of Undergraduate Admission admits qualified students without regard to age, race, color, national origin/ancestry, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, mental or physical disability, genetic information, veteran status, membership in or application to the uniformed services, or other protected status. The campus visit and personal interview are weighted during a candidate's application review. Therefore, applicants are strongly encouraged to visit campus and arrange an interview.
