Dr. Donovan's research interests include statistics education, statistical literacy, and equity in STEM education. Past research examined conceptual understanding in introductory statistics courses, as well as the integration of online learning in face-to-face courses. Present research focuses on implementing a mentoring program for students of color in STEM majors at Lasell.

Dr. Donovan became program chair for mathematics in 2018, followed by cybersecurity and data analytics in 2019. Housing these three data-rich areas under one umbrella fosters an interdisciplinary approach to individual student needs as well curricular development.

Prior to joining Lasell University in 2013, Dr. Donovan was a lecturer at Emmanuel College for more than a decade.

What do you like about teaching at Lasell?
The sense of community at Lasell is what I enjoy the most. The sense that everyone from student to faculty to staff are all working toward a common goal.

What is one thing that you hope students take away from your class?
One of my overarching teaching goals is for students to see and appreciate how mathematics is a part of every aspect in our lives and thus, worthy of study.

Do you have any publications you would like students to be aware of?
Frazier, C. & Donovan, D. (2019). Transforming STEM: A Call-Response Approach to Mentoring Students of Color. Association of American Colleges and Universities (AAC&U) Project Kaleidoscope: Transforming STEM Higher Education. Chicago, IL.

Donovan, D., Miller, E.R., & Escobar, N. (2018). Fostering Success in an Introductory College Mathematics Course Using a Hybrid Model. Association of American Colleges and Universities (AAC&U) Transforming STEM Higher Education: Confirming the Authority of Evidence. Atlanta, GA.

What are your hobbies/interests outside of teaching?
I spend a great deal of time baking. Always trying something new!

What's your favorite Lasell tradition?
Midnight Breakfast is my favorite tradition. It is a great opportunity to come together as a community over fresh waffles and bacon!
