Student Health Insurance Plan
Lasell College is pleased to announce that for the 2016-17 Academic Year we have partnered with Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Massachusetts and University Health Plans to provide health insurance coverage for our students. All students enrolled in at least 9 qualifying credits are required by Massachusetts State law to enroll in the Student Health Insurance or be covered by a health insurance plan with comparable coverage. To ensure compliance with Massachusetts law, students who are registered for 9 or more credit hours are automatically billed for the Student Health Plan. To read the details on this law, click here.
All undergraduate international students at Lasell College are automatically enrolled in the Student Health Insurance and do not need to take any action. Please contact University Health Plans at (800) 437-6448 if you are covered by a US employee health insurance plan that meets healthcare reform standards and is comparable to the Student Health Insurance Plan.
ENROLLMENT FORM: Complete this form if you want to expedite your Student Health Insurance enrollment process to receive your BCBS ID card sooner. If you do not complete this form, your information will not be added to the insurance plan system until after the effective date of 8/15/16.

WAIVER FORM: If you are currently insured by a health insurance plan that provides you with comparable coverage to the Student Health Insurance Plan then you may waive enrollment. However, please note the following:
- Not all plans provide comprehensive coverage in the Boston area such as out-of-state Medicaid plans, and certain HMOs and managed care plans. Be sure to check with your insurance company before waiving.
- Mass Health is accepted, but Mass Health Limited, Health Safety Net, Husky Healthcare, and Children’s Medical Security Plans are not considered comparable to the Student Health Insurance Plan.
- If your comparable plan will end before 8/27/16, while you are in school, you must either enroll in the Student Health Insurance Plan within 60 days of your other plan’s end date, or find comparable coverage elsewhere.

Graduate Accident and Sickness
Graduate students are not eligible to be covered by the Lasell College Student Health Insurance. Courses that meet strictly online and courses that meet less than 15 days a semester on campus are not included in the calculation of qualifying credits.
International Graduate Students International Graduate Students are strongly encouraged to purchase health insurance coverage prior to arrival in the United States. It is advised to protect against unforeseen health circumstances while studying here at Lasell College. There are a variety of health insurance providers available to assist international students purchase coverage. University Health Plan (UHP), the Lasell College provider, is available to answer general insurance plan questions and make appropriate referrals. Should you be unable to complete classes for the semester, there may be circumstances where you are not eligible for a full refund of tuition and fees. At Lasell College we understand that this risk can be a potential financial hardship for many families. Therefore, it is important that the person financially responsible for paying your tuition reviews and understands the policy prior to you starting classes. An optional insurance program is available to help refund your tuition, fees, and room/board charges, up to the annual policy limits, if you are unable to complete the semester due to a covered medical reason. We are pleased to make available the GradGuard Tuition Refund Insurance and Student Protection Plan.
GradGuard Tuition Refund Insurance, underwritten by Markel Insurance Company, will refund your family for the cost of tuition, room and board, and other eligible academic fees and costs (up to your chosen policy limits) should you be unable to complete an academic term, as recommended by a doctor, for a covered medical reason. This program provides students with an exclusive suite of beneﬁts designed to help protect your education investment. The cost for this coverage starts at $143.00 for the academic year. This insurance program complements our school refund policy and we believe families can benefit from this added protection. Administrative office, Waukesha, WI. If a withdrawal is due to a mental health issue, a hospitalization stay of at least 24 hours, within 30 days of the date of withdrawal, is required. In some states, this requirement may be modified to a 2-day hospitalization.

An optional insurance program is available to help protect your personal property in the event that it is damaged or stolen.
