PARENTS AND FAMILY
Dear Parents and Families:
Welcome to the Lasell College Web site. I invite you to explore these pages to learn about the long and rich traditions of the College and about the contemporary education we provide in preparing students to thrive in a diverse and changing world.
You may not be aware that Lasell is the second oldest institution of higher education in the Boston area. Only Harvard is older. Throughout our 156 years of existence, we have balanced a liberal arts foundation with professional career preparation. This tradition continues today through our connected learning philosophy in which students gain practical experience along with their academic preparation.
As a small college, we offer the opportunity for students to work closely with their professors. More than 90% of our classes have 25 or fewer students. This intimate class setting facilitates the use of problem-solving and project-based teaching methods, which have proven to result in more engaging and durable learning experiences for students.
We expect that Lasell graduates will leave our campus prepared to take their place as contributing and responsible citizens. In addition to proficiency in their major fields of study, we strive to instill in our graduates communication skills, technological competence, sensitivity to other people and cultures and reasoning skills sufficient to grapple with both practical problems and moral dilemmas.
Currently in a period of unprecedented growth, Lasell is adding new majors and additional faculty every year. This fall we are opening our newest and largest residence hall, overlooking Grellier Field. We are adding baseball to an intercollegiate program that already boasts 12 other well-established, varsity sports. The number of co-curricular activities, particularly in the arts, is expanding again this year. I think you will find we have a campus that is as active and vibrant as it is beautiful.
I encourage you to learn more about Lasell -- its programs, its activities, and its people.
Yours truly,

Michael B. Alexander
