Student Designers Strut Their Stuff at Annual Fashion Show: Runway 2015

May 01, 2015

With Boston area fashion celebrities watching, senior and undergraduate Fashion Design students will showcase their work this weekend at Lasell's Fashion Show: Runway 2015. Freshmen, sophomores and juniors will present their designs on Friday, May 1st, while the Senior Collection will have its own runway show on Saturday, May 2nd. Both shows will take place in Lasell's Athletic Center at 7 pm.

On opening night, undergraduate designers will compete in two special contests sponsored by Boston-area philanthropist and collector Frederic Sharf. The first will involve garments influenced by John Bates, a British designer from the 1960's. The second, in the show's Couture segment, will feature designs inspired by "Embroidered Dreams," a book portraying pieces influenced by the 1920's. Sharf has authored the book, "John Bates: The Sensational Years" and provided each designer with a copy. In addition, Sharf also donated the prize money for each competition.

This year's senior runway show features senior fashion design collections including costume collections, swimwear, gowns and high end designs. In addition, fashion industry heavy-hitters will serve as runway judges. They include Boston-area fashion icon Yolanda Cellucci; Don Fleming, former Vice President of Neiman Marcus- Natick; as well as Designer and Entrepreneur, Cibeline Sariano. Fashion legend and last year's commencement speaker Joseph Abboud will also attend.

The management of the show, as well as the construction of the set for the professional-style runway, is completely run by students in the College's Fashion Merchandizing and Fashion Communication and Promotion departments.
