Small Business the Topic at Lively Gubernatorial Forum

President Michael B. Alexander welcomed six candidates running for governor of the Commonwealth to a breakfast forum in de Witt Hall on "The Role and Impact of Small Business in the Economic Development of Massachusetts" on April 30.

Panelists Joe Avellone, Don Berwick, Evan Fulchuk, Steve Grossman, Juliette Kayyem and Jeff McCormick made opening statements and answered audience questions at the well-attended event, co-sponsored by Lasell's Small Business Institute and the Newton-Needham Chamber of Commerce.

Among the issues touched on during the spirited session were the impact of zoning laws, the tax structure, transportation, education, business innovation and the environment on the economic health of the community.

In closing, Acting Associate Vice President for Academic Affairs Steve Bloom thanked the candidates for their participation and for "helping us make the classroom the real world."
