Professor Honored for Contributions to Community Day Center

October 24, 2014

Professor Sharyn Lowenstein, Director of Lasell's Center for Community Based Learning, will be honored by the Community Day Center in Waltham as a recipient of the 2014 Founders' Award for her contributions to the organization. The award will be given at the Community Day Center's Fall Gala October 24th.

Lowenstein, who was nominated by the organization's executive director Marilyn Lee-Tom, has been a supporter of the organization's mission to move homelessness beyond crisis. In 2010, Lowenstein and her capstone class partnered with the Day Center to create a photo exhibit by homeless photographers and raise awareness.

"The award recognizes individuals who show exceptional dedication to helping further the Center as an organization and aid the Center in its mission to move our guests from a life of crisis to one of stability," said Tom.

Lowenstein has consistently involved her students in Day Center programs and previously has served as a member of the Gala Committee, Tom added.

"We applaud Sharyn's involvement with and service to Center. Both Sharyn's individual contributions as well as her success with student projects at the Center are wonderful extensions of the College's commitment to civic engagement," said Jim Ostrow, Vice President for Academic Affairs at Lasell.
