Lasell Student Drama Club Presents Spring Awakening

Lasell's student performing arts group, The Scribe Tribe, opened its performance of the musical Spring Awakening on November 29, with shows continuing at the Yamawaki Auditorium through December 1.

Performances of the musical are Friday Nov. 30 at 7 pm and Saturday Dec. 1 at 2 and 7 pm. The musical is directed by Professor Hortense Gerardo and produced by Professor Richard Bath.

The musical Spring Awakening, written by Steven Sater with music by Duncan Sheik, is based on a play by Frank Widekind. Set in 1891 Germany, the musical explores adolescent struggles with puberty in a setting where youngsters are to ask no questions about changes in their bodies.

The performance features Lasell students Shauna Byrne, Lindsey Charette, Katherine Davis, Molly Davol, Tim Doucette, Sarabeth Hanny, Moise Michel, Eric Oxtoby, Isaac Parsons, Vanessa Pereira, Megan Pillsbury, Gabrielle Povolotsky, Elizabeth Weeks, and Carissa Woolf with Emily Hague, Elizabeth Coffey, Elizabeth Centauro, Giuliana Ciannella, Fiona O'Hagan, and Amy Sleeper.

The performance's musical director is Harvey Finstein; musicians include Brandon Chase, Kenneth Calhoun, and Eric Schindler; vocal director is Lori L'Italien; choreography by Jamie Brege; assistant director is Lindsey Cahoon; head stage manager is Natasha Mwape; assistant stage manager is Denise Archetto; head props master is Meaghan Whalen; costume and styling by Barbara Wrenn; hair and makeup by Shauna Byrne; lighting design by Christopher Lemmon; sound design by Shianne Silvia; technical consultants are Jonah Goska and Brian Wardyga; graphic design by Stephen Fischer and Hayley Boyle.

Alexander announced today that the College is the recipient of a $20,000 2013 National Endowment for the Arts matching grant to assist in the creation of an online fashion design catalog. The Lasell grant proposal was one of 50 grants funded by the NEA in its Art Works Design category.
