Lasell Says Thank You Travels Back to Support NJ Coast

February 16, 2015

Three years after Hurricane Sandy wreaked havoc on the New Jersey coastline, 10 Lasell students, led by Area Coordinator, Trish Moran, as the service group Lasell Says Thank You, traveled back to the area to help out.

Working with the New Jersey-based service organization A Future With Hope, Moran and the students, led by juniors Phil Skerry and Katie Rathbun, helped rebuild the house of Kristy Sweeney over Valentine's Day weekend, Feb 13-15.

Sweeney, whose home was damaged in the hurricane, has yet to receive funding to pay for her home restoration.

This is the third year that the Lasell Says Thank You group has traveled to the New Jersey coast. The trips have focused primarily on Hurricane Sandy- related relief. To be selected to travel with the group, students must submit an essay about service along with their application.

A Future With Hope is connected to the United Methodist Church and was created to support and provide relief to NJ residents who were affected by Hurricane Sandy.
