Lasell Ranks 4th Among Massachusetts Schools in National Recyclemania Competition

April 20, 2011

In only its second year of participation, Lasell topped other Massachusetts schools including M.I.T and Tufts University to be ranked fourth among schools in the state in the Recyclemania competition.

Recyclemania is a national recycling competition for colleges and universities that runs from February through late March helping schools calculate total recycling amounts as part of the competition.

Lasell's recycling rate during this year's competition rose to 39.90%, up from 22 % last year.

"We did great! We have improved our recycling rate and helped the environment, that's what counts, said Marc Fournier, Assistant Director of Plant Operations and Sustainability for the College

In order to compete in Recyclemania, the College must count the bags of trash/recycling, estimate the weight of recyclables and convert this number to tonnage. Two Eco-Reps from the Center for Community Based Learning coordinated events, organized, monitored and calculated the totals reported to the Recyclemania competition.

To simplify the recycling process this year, students also received white recycling buckets that they could hand carry to the- recycling rooms in their residence halls.

President Alexander Responds to the Tragedy in Orlando  Thursday, June 16, 2016We the people of the United States cherish our freedoms. Whether it be the freedom to say what we want, to assemble in groups of our choosing, to follow the religions of our choice, to vote as our conscience demands, to own and carry weapons, to start new businesses and make money, and to move about as we please -- these are values we hold dear and are reluctant to compromise.
