Washington Monthly recently ranked Lasell College in the top 20 schools in its Service Category for Baccalaureate Colleges. The honor comes a month after Lasell was ranked among the best colleges via U.S. News and World Report.

The publication ranks colleges based on three categories: social mobility, research and service. Lasell finished 18th in the Service Category.

The Service Category winners are scored in five criteria including Peace Corps rank, ROTC rank, federal work-study funds spent on service rank, community service participation and hours served rank and service staff, courses and financial aid support rank. The number of staff devoted to service endeavors is also considered.

Washington Monthly's Annual College Guide takes an alternative approach to college rankings. The publication states that it disregards reputation surveys of colleges and universities in favor of using statistics to judge how well colleges and universities serve their communities and the country.
