Lasell Professors Present at the Costume Society of America

June 06, 2017

Lasell Fashion Professors Lynn Blake and Jill Carey presented the Lasell Catalogue of Artistry in Fashion at the Costume Society of America's 43rd Annual Meeting and Symposium on June 1, 2017.  The Catalogue was launched in October 2015 and is an online, multimedia, educational resource that documents vintage fashion design applications from the 19th and 20th centuries.

While the Catalogue was created through federal grant funding from The National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) and in collaboration with the Smithsonian-affiliated American Textile History Museum, the production of the Catalogue truly hits at the core of Lasell's Connected Learning philosophy.  It engaged undergraduate students as they identified significant examples of design techniques, conducted careful analysis and literature reviews, and reported their findings in research summaries to curators. Students were also charged in identifying artisans willing to share their design expertise, and supported the production team in the preparation and stylization of artifacts for the website.
