Lasell Participates in “Belle of the Ball”

April 11, 2011

The glitz and glam of Prom will have a little sprinkle of Lasell mixed in this year. When local high school girls hunt for the perfect dress during Belle of the Ball this weekend, they may choose from dresses donated by Lasell students.

Belle of the Ball, an event sponsored by Anton's Cleaners, distributes gently worn prom dresses each spring to those who have trouble affording one. The program, established in 2005, has helped over 1,475 young ladies receive a dress, shoes, and accessories, allowing them to experience the spring ritual for highschoolers known as Prom.

Lasell's Fashion Service Society organized donations of used prom dresses during March and will also volunteer as personal shoppers for the highschoolers at Belle of the Ball this weekend. This year's event will be held at Simmons College

According to Ginelle Gaulin-McKenzie, the Fashion Service Society's advisor, about 15 dresses were donated by Lasell students. In total, the Belle of the Ball boutique offers more than 2,000 gently worn gowns, shoes and accessories.

In addition to the prom dress boutique, members of the society also plan clothing swaps on campus and have held fashion show fundraisers for local charities. This year the society held a fundraiser to benefit the Merrimack Valley Food Bank.

President Alexander Responds to the Tragedy in Orlando  Thursday, June 16, 2016We the people of the United States cherish our freedoms. Whether it be the freedom to say what we want, to assemble in groups of our choosing, to follow the religions of our choice, to vote as our conscience demands, to own and carry weapons, to start new businesses and make money, and to move about as we please -- these are values we hold dear and are reluctant to compromise.
