Lasell's First Chapter of Eta Sigma Delta

The Lasell Hospitality and Event Management program inducted its first members into Lasell's chapter of Eta Sigma Delta International Hospitality Management Society, making Lasell College one of five schools in Massachusetts to have an active chapter in Eta Sigma Delta and one of 117 schools worldwide.

The formation of the chapter was initiated by Professor Melissa Varao, Ph.D., Department Chair for Marketing and Management and Program Director for Hospitality and Event Management, and Professor Siddarth Mobar, MBA, after realizing the invaluable opportunity for students. "Eta Sigma Delta is considered to be very prestigious in the hospitality industry and thus it increases the marketability of our students," says Mobar, "It is dedicated to distinguishing our members in the eyes of educators, recruiters, and industry executives in this ever-growing industry, creating networking platforms, attendance in hospitality related shows and conferences."

As members of Eta Sigma Delta, Lasell students will maintain the standards set by the National Council on Hotel, Restaurant, and Institutional Education (ICHRIE) and Eta Sigma Delta International Hospitality Management Society by fostering growth of knowledge, promoting the advancement of the hospitality discipline and industry, and being involved in hospitality related events held on campus. "The idea," says Varao, "is that students are continuing to broaden their knowledge in their field at a higher level."

The first induction into Lasell's chapter of Eta Sigma took place on May 2, 2017.
