Lasell Fashion Students Win IIDA Competition for Second Year

October 31, 2011

For the second year in a row, Lasell fashion students won first place in the "schools" category at the IIDA (International Interior Design Association) 2011 Fashion Show and Benefit Gala at the Westin Copley Plaza Hotel in Boston.

The event, held on October 13, challenges local designers and interior design showrooms to compete in a fashion show using traditional materials from the interior design world to create unique designs.

Lasell's entries in the "schools" competition were sponsored by textile supplier Arc-Com and Boston-based furniture supplier McKearney Associates.

Proposed by Lasell students, the theme of the night was iconography. Lasell presented four different designs using the icon of Venus as inspiration. Drawing from "The Birth of Venus" by Botticelli, the four designs were created from vinyls and woven textiles.

The Lasell team included four design students, Amanda Ericson, Brenna Fligg, Jennifer Judd, and Jacqueline Martini. Shawnda Shaffer, a fashion communication and promotion student, provided fashion merchandising assistance and Elisa Bronstein provided make up for the student models. As the winner of the category, Lasell beat four other design teams.

Fashion professors Anne Valley and Jill Carey, and Fashion Chair Lynn Blake served as advisors to the team.

"We went through a wonderful process. We then got into art, we recreated the painting," Blake said.

President Alexander Responds to the Tragedy in Orlando  Thursday, June 16, 2016We the people of the United States cherish our freedoms. Whether it be the freedom to say what we want, to assemble in groups of our choosing, to follow the religions of our choice, to vote as our conscience demands, to own and carry weapons, to start new businesses and make money, and to move about as we please -- these are values we hold dear and are reluctant to compromise.
