For the third year in a row, Lasell student designs walked the runway at Boston Symphony Hall for its now-annual fashion contest. With flowing gowns inspired by Beethoven's music, three Lasell sophomores Jessica Hutchings, Nicole Wzorek, and Yuki Kanai competed in the contest on February 3rd.

A total of 10 contestants from area colleges, including Mt. Ida College and Rhode Island School of Design, participated in the "Project Beethoven" contest, but Lasell College was the only institution to be represented by three finalists.

The contest took place following a performance by the Boston Symphony Orchestra of Beethoven's Piano Concerto No.3.

"Our students' work represented Lasell College well. Having the work from three students chosen was a nod of appreciation for our department by the BSO, and we were thrilled," says Professor Mary Ruppert-Stroescu, Chair of the Fashion Department.

The winner of "Project Beethoven," Maria Canada of Rhode Island School of Design, was selected by a judging panel of local celebrities, including Alexandra Hall, the Executive Editor of Lifestyle for Boston Magazine, designers Michael DePaulo and Sarah Campbell, Liana Krupp of New Brahmin and BSO Cellist Owen Young. Jared Bowen, arts reporter for WGBH's Greater Boston served as the evening's emcee, while fashion consultant Kathy Benharris, photographer William Downey, makeup artist Debra Macki, and Brandon Keith Hair also participated in the event.

In Lasell's first year of competing at Symphony Hall ("Project Mozart"), current senior Charles Newman walked away with third prize. In the second year, ("Project Tchaikovsky"), Fallon Coster was awarded the Patron's Choice award (voted by the audience). This year, alum Ashley Lambert (Class of 2010) helped convince the manager of L'Elite Boutique in Boston to display this year's winning designs to be in the store windows.
