Lasell Faculty, Student Participate in National Communication Conference

Three Lasell Communication professors participated in the National Communication Association's annual convention which took place in Chicago in late November.

Professor Dana Janbek gave a presentation on her joint research on Syrian refugees and their use of cellphone communication. Janbek, along with Melissa Wall from California State University, Northridge, spoke during the program titled Scholar to Scholar: Constructing a Communicative World, which included presentations from 20 different research teams ranging from social media in environmental crisis to media multitasking.

Janbek and her co-researcher Melissa Wall also presented at a pre-conference seminar on the same topic. Their talk was titled Syrian Refugees, Personal Media Usage and Community Cohesion: New Research Directions.

In addition Professor Erin Vicente chaired a session on Implications for PR Pedagogy, PR Student Recruitment, and PR Research, while Professor and Communications Department Chair Janice Barrett chaired a session on Insights into the Communication Dynamics of Bullying and Strategies for Teaching Peace Sponsor: Peace and Conflict Communication Division.

Graduate student Majed Al-Juraywi also participated in the conference.
