Lasell Donates Computers to Support Cancer Patients

March 14, 2013

Lasell College donated more than 70 computers this week to the local non-profit organization Recycle Computers 4 Cancer, which will enable patients stay in touch with loved ones, obtain medical information and work online.

According to Deborah Gelch, the College's Chief Information Officer, Lasell has no formal program for disposing of older computers that have been replaced.

"We would have paid to have them removed," she said.

The idea to donate the computers came from Emily Alter, a long-time Lasell employee and administrative assistant for faculty. Alter learned of the organization after donating her own personal computer to the group and suggested the College do the same.

"I thought it would be a great way to support people who could use them," she said.

The non-profit organization has drop off centers or will drive to a location to pick up the used hardware.
