First-Year Students Honored for Academic Achievement

February 06, 2015

First-year Dean's List and Honors Program students received recognition from the College in a special ceremony involving faculty, staff and administrators on February 6.

The event honored first-year students who made Dean's List or participated in the Honors Program during their first semester at Lasell.

About 200 students received awards at the ceremony, which featured brief speeches by President Michael B. Alexander, Dean of Advising and First Year Programs, Helena Santos, and Sophomore Grace Hogan, who received an academic achievement award last year as a first-year student.

Others participating in the event included Vice President of Student Affairs Diane Austin, Dean of Undergraduate Education Steven Bloom, Director of the Honors Program Stephanie Athey, and Vice President for Academic Affairs James Ostrow.

To be listed on the Dean's List, students must take 12 or more graded credits for the semester and achieve a GPA of 3.5 or higher. The Honors Program focuses on academic excellence in highly motivated students, alongside the Lasell hallmarks of connected learning, student-centered teaching and social responsibility. The program concentrates on the ability for students to more deeply explore their chosen field of study.
