College Receives Grant for Hybrid Van Conversion

Lasell College, which has made strides in its sustainability efforts in recent years, recently received a grant to convert its van fleet to hybrid vehicles.

The College received a $25,944 grant in December from the Massachusetts Clean Cities Coalition and the state-funded Fleet Alternative Fuel Grant program.

XL Hybrids, Inc will install the technology in two vans and the College's main shuttle - enabling the vehicles to function as cost-saving hybrids.

The college has regularly engaged in other sustainability efforts including replacing older heating systems for new, high-efficiency ones, participating in a program that recycles cooking oil from the cafeteria for use as heating oil in a Boston shelter, and a campus-wide recycling effort.
