College Hosts Ceremonial Groundbreaking for New Academic Building

May 14, 2016

The College held a ceremonial groundbreaking for its new Academic Center May 14 with local officials, trustees, alumni, faculty and staff in attendance. The new building, scheduled to be finished in December 2017, will showcase state-of-the-art labs and classrooms and will increase collaboration among departments.

The project is considered by many to be transformational for the College and is needed to support interdisciplinary collaboration, steadily growing enrollment and the science, athletic training and exercise science faculty - who will be the primary users of the new labs.

Among those in attendance at the May 14 ceremony were Lasell President Michael B. Alexander, State Representative Kay Khan, members of the Lasell Board of Trustees, faculty, staff and alumni from the 50th reunion Class of 1966.

Among the features of the new building are:

  • 16 25-person classrooms
  • three 50-person classrooms that can be divided
  • 30 faculty offices
  • six lab spaces
  • five reservable study rooms
  • men's, women's and gender neutral bathrooms
  • an elevator
  • outside plaza and new bookstore
  • a new cafe and IT help desk.
