College Holds Sports Career Forum Friday

Lasell's Sport Management Department will host a sports career fair on Friday November 7 featuring talks from university athletic directors to representatives from New England sports teams. The career fair will run from 9 am to 3 pm in de Witt Hall.

The Career Forum begins at 10 am with a talk by Chair of the Sport Management Department Dwayne B. Thomas, who will speak about Maximizing the Value of Sport Management Education. His talk will be followed by recently appointed Lasell Sport Information Director and alum Emily Machado who will speak about Transitioning from College to a Career in Sports.

From 11 - 11:30 am, attendees will learn about the European Sport Management Model and at noon a panel discussion on Careers and Contemporary Issues in Sport will run until 2 pm. Panelists include Susan Byrne, Associate Director of Athletics for Marketing and Sales, Harvard University; Joseph Kelly of Thayer Academy; Mark O'Sullivan; Emily Sweeney of The Boston Globe; Eric Maleson, former Brazilian Bobsled Olympian; Tara Goodwin Frier, founder and CEO of Goodwin Group PR and Steve Leach, US Hockey Olympian, NHL veteran and scout.

At 2 pm, two veteran sports attorneys, Brian Cook and Rita Roche will discuss Careers and Legal Issues in Sports.

Among the organizations participating in the career fair are: Boston Blades/Digit Murphy Athletics, Boston Public Schools Athletics, City of Boston Parks & Recreation Department, John M. Barry Boys & Girls Club of Newton, Liberty Mutual (Olympic Sponsor), Malden Catholic High School, New England Revolution, Boston Red Sox and The Kraft Group.
