College Celebrates First-Year Student Achievement

February 17, 2016

First-year Dean's List and Honors Program students received recognition from the College in a special ceremony involving faculty, staff and administrators on February 12.

The First-Year Academic Achievement Awards event honored first-year students who made Dean's List or participated in the Honors Program during their first semester at Lasell.

Over 200 students received awards at the ceremony, which featured brief speeches by Vice President for Academic Affairs James Ostrow, Dean of Advising and First Year Programs, Helena Santos, and Sophomore Kayla Hammersley, a member of the Honors Program and an Environmental Studies major.

Others participating in the event included Vice President of Student Affairs Diane Austin and Associate Vice President for Academic Affairs and Dean of Undergraduate Education Steven Bloom.

To be listed on the Dean's List, students must take 12 or more graded credits for the semester and achieve a GPA of 3.5 or higher. The Honors Program focuses on academic excellence in highly motivated students, alongside the Lasell hallmarks of connected learning, student-centered teaching and social responsibility. The program concentrates on the ability for students to more deeply explore their chosen field of study.
