New Building Opening Draws Attention

November 13, 2017

In a story posted today on the Boston Business Journal's website, Lasell President Michael B. Alexander talked about the recent opening of the $24 million Science and Technology Center and the multitude of opportunities the new space will provide for students.

In particular, he focused on the importance of having state-of-the art laboratories within the 48,300-square-foot building, all of which serve as a professional training ground for students who will enter careers in the sciences or athletic training, as well as those who plan to continue their academic pursuits in graduate school.

"The science labs are real, modern labs that are equipped to do science in the way that people do it now, and therefore should be able to prepare students to enter graduate school or go into industry," Alexander said in the article.

The $24 million building is one of key elements of The Campaign for Lasell College, a two-year fundraising effort to raise $12 million to cover capital improvements, increase the school's endowment, and to support new academic programs. The new Science and Technology Center is a direct result of this effort, and includes lab space for athletic training, exercise science, mathematics, chemistry, and biology courses, as well as a flex lab for multidisciplinary use. It also includes 21 all-purpose classrooms, several group study rooms, a café, and 29 faculty offices.
