The Major Gifts Officer will report to the Vice President for Development and Alumni Relations. He/she is responsible for managing a portfolio of 125-200 major and giving prospects; assisting in the administration and maintenance of all policies and procedures for accepting major and planned gifts; developing and implementing a marketing strategy including workshops, dialogues, and one-on-one meetings; and working with other major gift team members to secure substantial major and planned gifts. He/she will collaborate closely with the Vice President for Development and Alumni Relations to design, plan and implement an aggressive marketing program to identify, cultivate, solicit and effectively steward major gifts from alumni and friends of the College through the use of one-on-one visits, meetings and proposal writing. He/she will prepare proposals and solicitation materials to send to prospects, identify individuals that may be amenable to investing in the College, design and implement a program to bring selected alumni and friends to the campus and to visit on an annual basis; participate in the establishment of annual goals for identifying new individual prospects, participate in the design of programs designed to increase the size of gifts that we receive from alumni and friends and to secure repeat gifts from those alumni and friends, develop cultivation and solicitation strategies with other members of the Fundraising Team, move donors to higher giving levels through the use of moves management strategies; plan and implement an aggressive planned giving program in collaboration with other major gift team members, manage volunteer leaders as assigned, track and record all major gift prospect activities as in the prospect management database system as outlined by departmental policies and procedures, and perform all other duties assigned by the Vice President for Development and Alumni Relations within the scope of the position.
Qualifications: A bachelor's degree is required and a master's degree in non-profit management or philanthropic studies, public administration, marketing/public relations or a related field is preferred. A Certified Fund Raising Executive (CFRE) and/or licensed insurance agent is/are a plus. Candidate should possess three to five years of experience in major gifts solicitation. The successful candidate must possess a working knowledge and demonstrated ability to operate computer and various software, i.e. Microsoft Word, Excel, Internet, Raiser's Edge, PowerPoint, Publisher, etc. The candidate should have considerable knowledge of CASE and/or AFP fundraising concepts, techniques and practices; possess strong organizational skills, effective communication skills (both written and verbal); a demonstrated ability to take initiative, a strong ability to multi-task, ability to work independently and as a team member, a demonstrated ability to be flexible and adaptable to changes that may occur and the ability to travel extensively, i.e., weekdays and weekends.
