Lasell College, located in Newton, Massachusetts, currently has an opening for a talented student development professional to join the Office of Residential Life as an Area Coordinator in the Student Affairs Department. Working within a student development framework, the professionals in the Office of Student Affairs at Lasell College strive to create an environment wherein students’ learning is supported and their individual growth is enhanced.
Founded in 1851, Lasell College is a private, coeducational institution offering undergraduate and graduate programs of study. The College has approximately 1800 full-time undergraduate students, and a graduate student population of 400. There are 27 residential buildings on campus, many of which are converted Victorian homes. Approximately 80% of the undergraduate population resides in campus housing.
This position is a full-time 12-month position that includes a partially furnished apartment and board plan that is available during the academic year. The Area Coordinator will oversee a residential area of campus comprised of multiple residential buildings.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The Area Coordinator will collaborate with all members of the Residential Life staff to create a positive residential experience that is supportive of the College’s academic mission, and contributes to the healthy personal, social, and intellectual development of residential students. Serving as a key educator in the Lasell community, the Area Coordinator’s general responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Training and supervising an undergraduate Resident Assistant staff
- Planning and implementing educational programming
- Building a community atmosphere through meaningful interactions with residential students
- Serving as an Administrative Hearing Officer in the College’s Conduct System
- Being responsible for weekend and week-night on-call duties
- Assuming the lead responsibility for a functional area in Residential Life (to be determined)
MINIMUM KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS REQUIRED
- Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s Degree in a related discipline preferred
- Pertinent residential experience preferred
