Infrastructure Technician

JOB SUMMARY:

The Infrastructure Technician is in the Enterprise Infrastructure group and is responsible for the day-to-day operations, maintaining and supporting of all technology infrastructure deployed to Lasell College, Lasell Village and Pine Manor College as well as other limited collaborative technology with Mount Ida College. This infrastructure includes but is not limited to:
• Networking
• Servers
• Data Center and Storage
• Corporate Cloud
• Desktop Engineering and Security
• Telephony

This position needs to be highly autonomous, self-starting and able to take on previously unexperienced systems with minimal assistance. This position is a jack-of-all-trades position where switching priorities will need to be handled with fluidity and minimal handholding.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Network:

• Understand the issues involved with administering and maintaining the College network infrastructure, network connectivity, and Internet access
• Support and maintain internal network systems such as DHCP, DNS
• Have knowledge of the topology of our corporate infrastructure
• Assist with the administration and maintenance of network infrastructure hardware
• Provide support for wireless infrastructure and network access control
• Provide support for IP and analog phone servers and voicemail

2. Internal Systems:

• Manage server OS, patches, infrastructure software and updates
• Support and maintain Microsoft services such as Active Directory, Exchange and Group Policy
• Support server backup sand restoration services
• Manage shared file and folder access
• Provide support for cloud based infrastructure systems
• Manage system and service integrity via logging and associated alerting systems

3. Desktop Engineering

• Maintain standard endpoint images
• Advising Client Services team of endpoint hardware specifications
• Manage image and application delivery systems
• Mange printer delivery systems and services
• Manage endpoint antivirus systems and desktop firewall
• Manage Lasell telephony systems
• Manage endpoint VPN and remote access technologies
• Manage Microsoft and Apple operating systems
• Works closely with the Client Services teams to ensure the infrastructure technology is performing as intended to meet the business needs of the college

MINIMUM KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS REQUIRED BY THE JOB:

Minimum Education level:

• Bachelor's degree required

Skills:

• Familiar with basic networking functions
• Familiar with Microsoft Domain Services
• Familiar with Cisco networking including Cisco's wireless platforms
• Knowledge of Microsoft technologies including; Exchange, IIS, Microsoft SQL, Office 365, and Azure Cloud
• Knowledge of virtual data center technologies, including VMware ESXi, vCenter, and Veeam Backup and Replication
• Bradford NAC experience a plus

Other Skills/Requirements of the Job:

• 3-5 years related experience
• Ability to read, analyze, and interpret technical procedures to make recommendations for process improvements
• Ability to write reports and technical documentation
• Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from various groups including: IT staff and end users
• Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
• Excellent troubleshooting, problem-solving and customer service skills
• May be required to work evenings and weekends in response to support and project issues to minimize downtime during production hours and to respond to emergencies
• May be required to participate in rotating after hour on-call schedule

PHYSICAL AND VISUAL REQUIREMENTS OF THE JOB:
Physical:
High level of physical effort such as pushing, pulling, bending, lifting and carrying heavy objects. (Over 50 lbs.)

Visual:
Above average visual effort with frequent exposure to visually demanding work involving detailed work.

WORKING CONDITIONS:
Work performed in an environment requiring occasional exposure to weather extremes, fumes , odors and/or noise.

Hazards:
Normally, no exposure to job hazards; probability of injury is remote.
