E-Learning and Research Librarian

Employment Status:
Part-Time (10 months), Monday-Friday, 20 hours per week, no weekends

Position Summary:
The E-Learning and Research Librarian is responsible for providing leadership in supporting research (online and in-person) library services to students, staff and faculty, with special focus on the graduate programs of Lasell College.  He/She will provide reference services to students and faculty as well as participate in an active instructional program.  The E-Learning and Research Librarian  will provide collection development for assigned departments or programs including liaison activities to multiple online graduate programs and must possess a professional and pedagogical commitment to equity, diversity, inclusion and social justice.

Essential Duties:

1)  Provide leadership in promoting use of library services for online students and faculty.
2)  Create and implement an innovative and effective program of online instruction including the development and assessment of a broad range of teaching and learning objects including but not limited to web-based tutorials, instructional videos, research guides, and web sites fully integrating e-learning into the course management system and the curricula in support of the Library's research, teaching and learning program.
3)  Act as liaison to current online programs:

a) Cooperate with multiple stakeholders to ensure collections and services are meeting the needs of online students and faculty.
b) Create and update library policies and procedures relating to online students and faculty.
c) Connect with students for more in-depth research requests.

4)  Assess key data related to online library services and resources, including ILL, reference, and database use and generate reports for library and program administrators.
5)  Ensure that online faculty and students are aware of services and resources available.
6) Provide library research instruction to on campus and off-site students incorporating active learning into both in-person and online
7)  Participate in other duties as assigned:

a) Work assigned research desk shifts during the week, at nights, and weekends. (Normally not more than one evening per week and one weekend shift per month.)
b) Serve on professional working groups at the library and university levels.

Additional Duties:

1.  Provide reference services to students and faculty, participating in an active instructional program.
2.  Develop information literacy initiatives and assessment tools for both on-campus and distance learning students.
3.  Reach out to faculty and academic departments is an essential component of the instruction program.
4.  Responsible for assisting in planning, implementing, and publicizing library services in innovative ways.
5.  Participate in collection development, updating and maintaining some of the library's social media outlets (blog, Facebook page, etc.) and serving on library and college committees.
6.  Due to the rapidly changing environment of the information world, position requires flexibility, willingness to explore new areas and learn new skills, and be able to work both independently and as part of a team.

A. Professional

1.  MLS/MLIS from ALA accredited Library School required. Additional graduate degree in Education, Business, or IT is preferred.
2.  Successful experience working in an academic library, with evidence of energetic effort and innovative outcomes.
3.  Demonstrated skill and leadership in library services for academic programs
4.  Experience providing reference via email, chat, phone and in-person to staff and faculty, as well as students.
5.  Ability to manage multiple projects at one time and excellent time management skills.
6.  Experience using design and editing software for media like Adobe Creative Suite, Camtasia, or other e-learning software.
7.  Ability to write scripts, recording, editing, and producing instructional videos and knowledge of best practices in management, compliance, and organization of videos.

1.  Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication, teaching and presentation skills
2.  Comfortable with learning and integrating new technologies
3.  Ability to build meaningful relationships with students and faculty, both face-to-face physically and online.

Physical Demands:

1.  Sit at a computer for long periods of time
2.  Be able to lift at least 25 lbs.
