Director of Health Services/Nurse Practitioner

JOB SUMMARY:
The Director of Health Services/Nurse Practitioner is a member of the professional staff that populates the Health Services Office. Reporting to the Vice President of Student Affairs, the Director is responsible for the overall design and coordination of a comprehensive student health program that provides consistent quality primary care to the students of Lasell College, and has a strong focus on educating students about developing behaviors that will enhance their long-term quality of life.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Fulfill tasks consistent with position as the manager of the Health Services functional unit, including: hiring and supervision of staff; management of clinical protocols and recordkeeping; development and oversight of annual budget; participation in the divisional leadership team.
2. Fulfill all tasks attendant to the Nurse Practitioner position, including: provision of competent, confidential, and respectful direct patient care; maintenance of accurate and timely patient records; provision of appropriate treatment recommendations and prescriptions for drugs; and medical consultation with students regarding self-care.
3. Establish and maintain a network of appropriate consultants/specialists outside of the Lasell College community, to whom students may be referred, and with whom questions may be addressed. Maintain active relationship with the Newton-Wellesley Hospital Emergency Room department. Maintain working relationship with the Department of Public Health.
4. Stay current with all Massachusetts state regulations pertaining to the college-age population, and insure College's compliance with related regulations, including immunization compliance and the documentation consistent with that process.
5. Work with colleagues throughout the campus community (including the Health Educator/Clinical Counselor) to organize and insure the delivery of a comprehensive health education co-curriculum to the Lasell College community through a variety of means including: written materials, educational presentations, and collaborations with faculty, student organizations, and other Student Affairs units.
6. Establish and maintain close working relationships with: the Athletics Department, Residential Life, the Counseling Center, and Campus Police.
7. Communication: students, other Health Services/Counseling Center colleagues, Athletic Training staff as necessary, Campus Police as necessary, other Student Affairs personnel as necessary, parents of students
8. Other duties as assigned.

Supervisory Responsibility:
Two nurse practitioners on staff (one full-time and one part-time); part-time physician; administrative assistant.

MINIMUM KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS REQUIRED BY THE JOB:
Minimum Education level:
Appropriate master's degree
Certification for advanced practice in Family and/or Adult Health (or BSN/RN licensure, with grandfathered certification in an advanced practice specialty)
Board Certified.

Computer skills:
Microsoft Office
Medicat: electronic medical record-keeping software

Other Requirements of the Job:
maintain continuing education certification

CERTIFICATION, REGISTRATION OR LICENSURE REQUIRED BY THE JOB:

1. Current Massachusetts licensure for Advanced Practice Nurse
2. Current Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) Certification
3. Current Massachusetts Department of Public Health Controlled Substances license

PHYSICAL AND VISUAL REQUIREMENTS OF THE JOB:
Physical:
Average physical effort with some handling of light weights, such as supplies or materials on an infrequent basis (10 - 15 lbs.).

Visual:
Average visual effort with infrequent exposure to visually demanding work.


WORKING CONDITIONS:
Work performed in an environment with correctable conditions such as lighting and room temperature.

Hazards:
Normally, no exposure to job hazards; probability of injury is remote.
