Assistant Professor of Mathematics

The School of Health Sciences seeks an Assistant Professor of Mathematics for a Fall 2018 appointment. More senior rank will be considered based on experience and other credentials.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
The successful applicant will teach a range of beginning and intermediate mathematics courses that are requirements or electives in the College's various majors. The candidate must be an outstanding teacher with the ability to recognize and respond to individual learning styles, the experience to implement innovative teaching strategies, the skills to work with underprepared students, and the commitment to apply the concepts of mathematics to situations that are relevant and important to students.

Classroom teaching is the main instruction environment, with mathematics laboratory and online teaching as possibilities. An ability and interest in utilizing an active, project-focused approach to teaching is critical. Our growing undergraduate and graduate programs are looking to enhance and diversify offerings. The successful candidate will have the ability to work both within and beyond the school to shape the ongoing development of undergraduate and graduate programs in response to new potential markets. We are specifically looking for faculty who appreciate the value diverse students bring to a campus community and are eager to help foster an inclusive campus environment. Faculty in all disciplines at Lasell may have the opportunity to teach in our Honors Program as well as the Core Curriculum, which could include teaching First Year Seminar, a Knowledge Perspective course in one of four areas, a sophomore multidisciplinary course, or a section of the junior Ethics Experience. The successful candidate will demonstrate excellence and enthusiasm in teaching and student advocacy; commitment to productivity and professional development; and active participation in department and college service that includes but is not limited to faculty standing committee work and academic advising.

QUALIFICATIONS:
The successful candidate will have a Doctoral degree in mathematics, mathematics education, applied mathematics, operations research, or related field; ABD will also be considered. Experience or credentials in areas requiring the practical applications of mathematical principles is a plus; online teaching experience is also a plus.
