Assistant Professor of Fashion

The School of Fashion at Lasell College in Newton, MA seeks an Assistant Professor of Fashion for a Fall 2018 appointment. More senior rank will be considered based on experience and other credentials.

Combining a strong Liberal Arts core with professional courses, the Fashion majors at Lasell College have produced highly successful graduates. Our alumnae can be found in many industry careers from designing for Burberry , Calvin Klein and Nic +Zoe to occupying merchandising executive positions at companies such as Nordstrom and the TJX Corporation to becoming creative and successful entrepreneurs. With the help of faculty, fashion students at Lasell College create, manage, and distribute a bi-annual fashion and culture publication and e-zine, POLISHED Magazine (www.polishedfashion.com). In addition, the annual undergraduate fashion shows showcase over 400 student designs drawing a crowd of over 1,500 attendees.

Responsibilities: We seek candidates with experience in the areas of design and production, particularly strong production history, complete knowledge of product development, and experience with design technology such as Lectra and Adobe, drafting, draping and illustration skills.

An ability and interest in utilizing an active, project-focused approach to teaching is critical. Successful candidates will demonstrate an avid interest in utilizing a project-focused approach to teaching. Working closely with the Program Director, the successful candidate will have the ability to shape the on-going development of the fashion design curriculum. We are specifically looking for faculty who appreciate the value diverse students bring to a campus community and are eager to help foster an inclusive campus environment. Faculty in all disciplines at Lasell may have the opportunity to teach in our Honors Program as well as the Core Curriculum, which could include teaching First Year Seminar, a Knowledge Perspective course in one of four areas, a sophomore multidisciplinary course, or a section of the junior Ethics Experience. The successful candidate will demonstrate excellence and enthusiasm in teaching and student advocacy; commitment to productivity and professional development; and active participation in department and college service that includes but is not limited to faculty standing committee work and academic advising.

Qualifications: A Master's Degree with at least 5 years of industry experience; MBA, MFA, or Ph.D. preferred. Prior college teaching in higher education is preferred.
