Join us for a brown bag lunch and informal discussion with visiting Fullbright Scholar Dr. Tina Uys, from the University of Johannesburg on Tuesday March 26, at 12:30 in the Conference room in the Donahue Center.
Dr. Uys is in the US for nine months as a Fullbright scholar (currently at Georgetown University in Washington, D.C.). She is exploring, in particular, the role Higher Education can play in a society in transition. She is also interested in mediation and has published extensively on whistleblowing.
Dr. Uys is the Chair of the Department of Sociology at the University of Johannesburg, is on the Executive board of the International Sociological Association and is the former President of the South African Sociological Association. She is particularly interested in applied sociology (sometimes referred to as "clinical sociology). She has many publications both internationally and in South Africa on themes such as relative deprivation and poverty, transition, group dynamics and HIV/AIDS.
Please RSVP to Anne Mullaney (amullaney@lasell.edu) by March 15 so that we can order lunch bags.
