Head Coach: Jonah Mytro Coach Jonah Mytro will be entering his fourth season as the Head Coach of the Lasell College Men's Volleyball program. Since taking over the program in 2005 and a 2-17 record, Coach Mytro has turned the program around and leading Lasell to the most wins in the programs history with a 16-12 record in 2006 and 13-17 in 2007.
Prior to joining Lasell, he served as the Assistant Coach for Regis College Women's Volleyball. His resume of coaching experience includes Collegiate DIII Programs, Junior Olympic (Boston Starlings 18ʼs) as well as Adult Clinics and Training Sessions with Boston area club teams and high school programs including Marlboro High School, DigThis Volleyball Club, Waltham HITS and Spike Boston Volleyball.
Jonah is currently an active member of the New England Regional Volleyball
Association (NERVA) as a player, Certified USAV Referee, USAV Tournament Director,
Elected Board Member and current President of Yankee Volleyball. Coach Mytro has over 13 years of playing experience at the high school, collegiate club, and adult club level and competes year round in indoor tournaments in New England and in outdoor doubles Open tournaments (grass and beach) in New England and New York.
He recently competed in the AVP Boston Open qualifier tournament, loosing to the 8th seeded team in the second round. Jonah competes in the USAV Nationals tournament at the B and BB level in 2003, 2004, 2006, and 2007 as well as in the Beanpot and Rick Pierce invitational tournaments since 2003.
Jonah, a 2002 graduate from the College of Wooster (Wooster, OH), was a collegiate
three-sport athlete playing Basketball, Club Volleyball, and Track and Field. He earned a Bachelors degree in Business Economics and currently works as the Marketing Director for an Internet Marketing Firm based in Brookline, MA.
 Assistant Coach: Scott Penna
Coach Scott Penna will begin his first season as Assistant Coach of the Lasell College Men's Volleyball team. Scott is a recent graduate of Lasell College (2007) majoring in Education. Coach Penna was a 4-year letter winner and played under Coach Mytro for 3 seasons (2004-2007) being named captain each year. Scott was a main factor in the success of the Men's Volleyball program over the course of his playing career playing Outside Hitter and Libero. He finished his career ranked second in digs with 606.
Before Coming to Lasell, Coach Penna grew up in Harwinton, CT where he first discovered Volleyball in his sophomore year of high school. Scott currently works with Newton Public Schools as an Inclusion Facilitator/Coach with special needs students. He looks forward in bringing his knowledge, enthusiasm, and strong interpersonal skills with him to benefit the team.
2008 Season Outlook
The Mens Volleyball finished 2007 with a 13-17 record and is returning 4 starters from last year, Andy Cass (So, OH), Serge Melnik (So, Opp), Joe Lipski (Jr, L/OH), Tyler Hammond (Jr, MH). The team is also excited about the addition of a very talented freshmen class. Dan Rogers (OH/MH, 6'6, Belchertown, MA), a standout at Belchertown High School helped lead his team to the 2007 Mass State Quarterfinals and will be looking to fill roles at the Outside and Middle. Matt Roberts (Opp, 6'3, Agawam, MA), 2007 MIAA State Final Four finalists, Mike Harrington (6'4, MH, Billerica, MA) is expected to add size at the net and Chad Mancuso (5'10, OH/L, South Kingstown, RI) rounding out the recruiting class for the Men's Volleyball Program.
2007 Season Wrap-up This is the third season for head coach Jonah Mytro and his team continues to improve with the addition of talented recruits to compliment the upperclassmen. The team finished the season 12-16 overall and 4-8 in the NECVA. Rookie Andy Cass (Wakefield, MA) led the team this season in both kills per game (2.97) and digs per game (2.70) while fellow classmate Serge Melnik (Natick, MA) added in 2.62 kills and 2.22 digs per game. Senior setter Bryan Bobo (Oneida, NY) led the team in service aces with 22, and averaged 9.81 assists per game. Bobo finishes his career as the Lasell College career assists record holder, amassing 2,636 assists. In addition, he also broke his own single-season record set last year at 809 with 952 this year. Seniors Scott Penna (Harwinton, CT) and Dwayne Cartagena (Cambridge, MA) also had good all-around senior seasons, Cartagena broke the Lasell College career kills record, which is now 761 and had a team high 69 total blocks this spring. Penna chipped in 2.60 digs per game and added offensive spark in the last few matches. Penna finished his career ranked second in career digs with 606.
