St. Bernard's | COACHING STAFF
Head Coach: Tim Dunton
Coach Dunton begins his sixth season as the head coach of the Lasell College men’s lacrosse team. The 2007 team finished the season with a 6-9 record, falling short of expectations, but they did manage to earn a berth to the Pilgrim League playoffs for only the second time in their history. In 2006, the Lasers finished the year with a 10-6 record, which marks the second straight year the program has accomplished 10 wins and qualified for the ECAC tournament in the process. The berth to the ECAC was the team’s second straight berth and 3rd in four years under Coach Dunton. Dunton has compiled an overall record of 38-36 in his first five years at the helm. He has had the luxury of coaching 12 All-Conference players, 2 Rookies of the Year, 1 Player of the Year and 2 All-New England players.
Dunton is a 2000 graduate of Endicott College. While at EC he was a four-year letter winner and named captain in his senior season. During his senior year he was also named an All-Conference midfielder and participated in the NEILA East-West Senior All-Star game. In addition to his coaching duties, Dunton is the Assistant Director of Athletics at Lasell College. Dunton resides in Billerica, MA with his wife Karen and daughter Madison.
Assistant Coach: Kyle Minaker
Kyle Minaker begins his second season as an Assistant Coach in 2008. Kyle is no stranger to Lasell College having graduated from the program in 2006. Coach Minaker enjoyed a very successful career at Lasell after transferring from Herkimer Junior College. In his two seasons at Lasell, he was twice voted a Pilgrim League All-Conference. He led the Lasers in points in 2006 and amassed the 100 point mark in those two years. Minaker was a critical player in the transformation of the Lasell program. In his time at Lasell, the team posted a record of 20-12, and reached the Pilgrim League playoffs for the first time in the school’s history. He was also part of the team that posted back to back 10 win seasons and received two ECAC tournament berths. In 2006, Minaker was named to the NEILA All-Region Team and also invited to participate in the NEILA Senior All-Star Game, becoming the first member of Lasell College to do so. Coach Minaker will be the offensive coordinator for the Lasers this spring. Minaker currently resides in Newton, MA.
Assistant Coach: Ryan Walsh
Ryan Walsh begins his first season as an Assistant Coach for the Lasers in 2008. He is a 2006 graduate of Endicott College where he received a degree in Criminal Justice. While at Endicott, he was a three-time All-Conference goaltender, two-time All-New England, two-time ECAC All-Region and part of a team that won three Commonwealth Coast Conference Championships, and made three NCAA tournament appearances. Walsh also captained the team his senior season. Upon graduation he was selected to play in the NEILA Senior All-Star Game, where he was named “Most Valuable Player”. Prior to Endicott, Coach Walsh was an All-American at Weymouth HS, where he played for legendary coach Tony Manzelli. Coach Walsh will be the defensive coordinator for the Lasers this spring. Walsh currently resides in Weymouth, MA.
2008 Preview The Lasers return a talented core group of players offensively and with the addition of a strong recruiting class, they should compete for the league championship in 2008. Offensively the team will be led by juniors Derek Allan (Billerica, MA), Mike Maggio (Winchester, MA), Dave Bulhoes (Billerica, MA) and sophomore Brian Yepez (Hillsborough, NJ). Bulhoes returns for his junior season after sitting out last year with a shoulder injury. Sophomore Kyle Towle (Exeter, NH) showed promise before tearing his ACL last fall and is also expected to be a contributor in 2008.
2007 Wrap-Up The men’s lacrosse team finished their season 6-9 overall and 5-3 in the Pilgrim League. Among the highlights of the season were two very hard fought games against nationally ranked Western New England College and annual powerhouse Springfield College. The Lasers also qualified for the Pilgrim League postseason tournament, falling in the semi-finals to WNEC.
Rookie Brian Yepez (Hillsborough, NJ) led the team in total points this season with 15 goals and 14 assists and was named Pilgrim League Rookie of the Week. Sophomore Mike Maggio (Winchester, MA) added 20 goals and eight assists and junior Derek Allan (Billerica, MA) also made a strong contribution with 10 goals and 11 assists. Anchoring the defense again this season was junior stand-out goalkeeper Mark DeMieri (Seaford, NY) who finished the season with 194 saves and a 9.54 GAA.
Nine seniors will leave the team this season, among them the all-time leading goal scorer Alex Zayac (West Springfield, MA, pictured above) who has amassed 129 career goals and 20 assists and was a tri-captain this year. Senior Jeffrey Scott (Emmaus, PA) had 20 goals this season, along with two assists and was named to the Pilgrim League All-Academic team. Senior Jeremy Davis (Emmaus, PA) finished his career with 67 goals and 29 assists, scoring 10 goals and 10 assists in 2007. Senior tri-captain Dan Winter (Floral Park, NY) added eight goals and 13 assists and finishing his career ranked third in all-time assists with 62. Chris LaBreche (Narragansett, RI) and Dan Russo (New Hyde Park, NY) added 13 and eight points respectively this season. Also graduating will be defenders Phil O’Loughlin (Billerica, MA), who was named tri-captain this year, Paul Dippolito (Farmingdale, NY) and Mike Gaudet (Lynn, MA).
