COACHING STAFF
Head Coach: Aaron Galletta Aaron Galletta begins his fourth year at Lasell College and his second season as the head men's basketball coach. Last year he helped guide the Lasers to a 16-12 record and a berth in the ECAC Tournament. Coach Galletta brings to the Lasell program a wealth of basketball knowledge garnered as a player and a coach. He graduated from Union College as the all-time leading scorer in 2002 with 1,949 career points, 663 scored in a storied senior season, in which he led the Dutchman to the second round of the NCAA tournament. He was named ECAC Upstate NY Player of the Year, NABC All-American Second Team, and was also a D3Hoops Third Team All-American selection. Coach Galletta was also one of ten national finalists for the Jostens Trophy given to the top Division III male basketball players. Before coming to Lasell, coach Galletta spent a year as an assistant at Mount St. Mary College where he helped the team to a 23-8 record and an ECAC berth.
Assistant Coach: Matt LeVangie After serving two years as an assistant coach for the University of Mary Washington Men’s Basketball team, Matt LeVangie begins his second season at Lasell College as an assistant. Prior to his time spent at Mary Washington, he also worked as an assistant coach for Suffolk University’s Men’s Basketball team for two years. Under LeVangie’s coaching, two players were voted All-Middle Atlantic Region Players from Mary Washington. A skilled recruiter, LeVangie is another great addition of a former player who can teach players on and off the court. A 2002 graduate of the University of Mary Washington, LeVangie was a four-year letter winner and served as captain his senior year.
Assistant Coach: Bruce Reese Bruce Reese starts his second season as assistant coach with the Lasers after receiving his Masters degree in Psychology from Boston University in May 2006. Coach Reese has spent the last three summers working as camp director at Skyhawks Sports Academy, specializing in basketball. Coach Reese plans to bring a hardworking, tenacious attitude to the Lasers to help players with all facets of the game.
Assistant Coach: Patrick Oroszko Patrick Oroszko enters his first year on the staff at Lasell College. He was an assistant coach at Anna Maria College from 2005-2007, and served as an assistant coach at Worcester State College from 2003-2004. A 2003 graduate of Clark University, Oroszko was a four year letter winner and served as captain his junior and senior seasons. During his playing career, Clark qualified for the NCAA tournament three times, including two trips to the elite eight. Oroszko earned his Master’s degree in Business Administration at Anna Maria College, graduating in 2007.
2006-2007 Review Under first year head coach Aaron Galletta, the Lasers finished their 2006-2007 campaign 16-12 overall and 11-3 in the NAC with an appearance in the NAC semi-finals. Among the highlights of the season were first time wins over Williams College (86-60) and Union College (77-56) which helped them earn their second appearance in the ECAC tournament where they faced Endicott College, losing in the final seconds 67-68.
Several players reached milestones this season including junior forward Jaime Crawford (Coral Springs, FL) who scored his 1,000th point this season and was named North Atlantic Conference Player of the Year. Crawford was also named to the All-NAC First Team for the second straight year after averaging 17.89 points per game, earned NAC Player of the week honors twice and was a named to the ECAC honor roll. Sophomore forward Jose Guitian (Miami, FL) was also named to the All-NAC First Team, the NAC All-Tournament Team and was ranked 6th in NCAA Division III men’s basketball in rebounding with 11.6 per game along with an impressive 17.7 points per game. Junior point guard Dwayne Powell (Lauderdale Lakes, FL) broke the single season assists record of 107 and finishing the season with 151 assists ranking him second all-time in assists at Lasell College.
