Haunting all Hallows

October 27, 2010

Around this time of year, Canobie Lake Park is a haven of Halloween and a court of costumes; all pieced together and maintained by Lasell alum Joe Gianni ('08).

Working closely with a vintage costume shop nearby, the eight year designer and Canobie veteran has Halloween down to a science. "I love how I can pretty much create any outlandish costume and have it be acceptable," Gianni said.

Lasell may not have trained Gianni for this sort of job, but he has loved creating ever since he was a student at Lasell. Fellow alum Crystal Noe remembers him well, "He would always talk about taking things a step further and he would really get into it."

"I started as a ride operator and in one month I became a manager. Now I have over 1000 pieces of costume to care for," Gianni said of his work at Canobie.

Once you manage makeup, design and general creative control for an entire park, I know I wouldn't turn back either.

120 of Gianni's costumes are shown nightly at Canobie and it is right about time to get into the ghostly spirit. Canobie Lake Park might be worth a visit if you have a free weekend.
