Georgia Pendergast '14 - Park Ranger

Georgia Pendergast

Employer: Town of Danvers - Endicott Park
Major: Environmental Studies

I currently work as a park ranger for the Town of Danvers, Mass. The job responsibilities include caring for our barn animals, monitoring invasive species, maintaining trails and teaching outdoor educational programs for families and students.

Our park offers a range of outdoor programs that I assist in running. Our children’s program has been a great experience of mine. Being able to teach children the importance of the environment while also making the outdoors a fun place to explore, has given me a great amount of joy.

The greatest assets I had during my time at Lasell were the professors in the Environmental Studies program. The program itself is a tight knit community that is open to helping and supporting beyond the classroom. Whether it was expanding my resume, making connections to professionals in the field or opening my eyes to new opportunities, the professors were there every step of the way to prepare me for my job.

A majority of my core classes at Lasell were conducted in the field, which was a great introduction to my career as a park ranger. Studying and exploring beaches, farms and trails allowed me to learn outside the classroom, which is exactly what I needed. Being a park ranger is a very hands-on job, and the courses at Lasell prepared me for that.
