Study Abroad

What was one of your most meaningful experiences?

One of the most meaningful experiences for me was learning how to travel sustainably through an academic travel course that took place in Iceland for two weeks. We studied the environment by doing hands on field experiments throughout remote areas of Iceland and it was the most amazing two weeks ever. One night, my entire class, consisting of students from all over the world, all laid out on a freezing cold beach together while watching the Northern Lights in the sky until two o'clock in the morning. Experiences like these are absolutely priceless.

Why should Lasell students study abroad?

At first, I never saw myself being capable of living on my own in a foreign country for a whole semester. Even when I first arrived in Switzerland I was still very nervous however, I quickly adjusted and soon studying abroad became the best decision I had ever made in my life. In fact, I loved it so much that I never wanted to leave! I decided to turn my semester abroad into an entire year abroad, and even that didn't feel like enough time! It's a great feeling when you surprise yourself by realizing you are capable of doing so much more than you anticipated.

What is your number one piece of advice for students studying abroad?
Take advantage of every moment! You never know when you'll get the chance to travel so easily (and cheaply) again after you graduate.

What is a typical day in the life when studying abroad?
Weekdays and weekends were always different while studying abroad however, you could always find something to do around Lugano. Weekdays were spent taking classes during the day and hanging out around campus. Downtown there is the beautiful Lake Lugano which is nice to just sit by, go for a run along or even just walk around the nearby shops while eating gelato. The weekends were always full of travel plans to different countries!
