Lasell Students Explore the Amazon

Students (Shawndrae Barreto, Kaley Maguire, Teresa Medeiros, Briana Musto, Georgia Pendergast, and Jillian Riches) have been studying the history, concepts, principles, planning, management, and development of ecotourism, which promotes cultural and environmental awareness and creates local environmental and economic benefits. Global, sustainable, ecotourism has been discussed at length with a look at the larger picture of tourism including approaches to delivering low impact development. Students have learned about holistic approaches to planning and tourism and reviewed standard industry practices and processes. The culmination of the course is the educational trip to the Amazon rainforest to view, research, and participate in a newly developing ecotourism system. Students will have the opportunity to meet with local professionals, discuss development with the owner of the partnering eco-lodge (Anavilhanas Jungle Lodge). Follow their journey:

Lasell College Wins NEA Grant to Create Online Fashion Design Catalog  Thursday, May 2, 2013Lasell College President Michael B. Alexander announced today that the College is the recipient of a $20,000 2013 National Endowment for the Arts matching grant to assist in the creation of an online fashion design catalog. The Lasell grant proposal was one of 50 grants funded by the NEA in its Art Works Design category.
