The Three S’s of Success
Andrew Civetti is a Criminal Justice major with minors in Forensic Science and Youth and Crime. He addressed the first-year Honors and Dean’s List Students at the February Academic Achievement Awards.
Congratulations to all of you for being here today and for your first step towards continued academic success.
When asked to give a quick talk, I thought about what it meant to be distinguished as you all are in the Lasell community, and what goes into earning academic success.
What I came up with I decided to call the Three S’s.
First, you have to be willing to seek challenges. Lasell has plenty of opportunities if you are willing to accept the challenge. In the coming years you will continue to challenge yourself with your course load. You will have opportunities to take classes regarding leadership and other areas that will help you well beyond your college years. I encourage you to choose assignments that interest to you and to never settle for average. Always go that extra mile and seek your own challenges. Your time here at Lasell is what you make of it.
Second is sacrifice. I know that to be here today you all have sacrificed a great deal in your first semester. I’m sure that plenty of times this meant staying behind when your friends were going into Boston to work on that paper or study for that test, but today you are rewarded for that commitment and sacrifice because all your efforts have paid off.
Finally, seeking challenges and sacrificing has led to what has brought you all here; your success. For most of us, success is measured by our accomplishments. But what I think drives success is always striving for what you have yet to accomplish. This is your first step of many in the coming years, and you have started your academic journey off on the right foot. Congratulations on an excellent first semester at Lasell and keep up the good work in the coming years.
