Kacie Allen
The Power of Education

Honors 101 has really exposed me to topics I would never have found myself learning about. I came to class eager to learn from the speakers we've had and applied the information I learned to my everyday life. I have a new outlook on class; instead of dreading a boring lecture, I go to class excited to educate myself on a variety of topics.

The genocide in Darfur was the most interesting topic covered in the Honors 101 class because it is such a present issue. Hearing the details to the crisis (mass murders, rapes, etc.) shocked me; I couldn't believe that something like that is actually happening yet not many people have taken action to stop it.

I have always believed that knowledge is power. The Darfur teachers educated the students about this horrible crisis and by doing so, we can reach out and inform others. The more people know about this, the more power there will be to help end the genocide.

The presentation Ali, Brianne and I make on Darfur to our Honors 101 class will be specific to how the media can contribute to informing people about the genocide in Darfur.
