Maritza Cantero Farrell was born and raised in Puerto Rico. Art has played a major role in her life from the beginning. She had been an illustrator, painter, graphic designer and fashion designer, before she discovered her passion for education and fiber arts. She has been influenced by writers, poets, the beauty of the landscape, the deep color of the ocean, and natural surroundings. She believes that we are part of our surroundings, that we are connected to nature and what we do to it, that Art is a creative process in which we continue growing.

Prior to Lasell College, Maritza Farrell taught at Newbury College, The School of Fashion Design, Mass College of Art, and Mount Ida College. She is also the owner and proprieter of New Wedding Images / Cantero Graphics. She writes: "I believe that each student has a world inside, which a teacher can help to bring out. Opening new doors of knowledge for them is the most important part of the teacher's job."
