Amy Maynard is a doctoral student in Language and Literacy at University of Massachusetts Lowell, she currently is writing her dissertation proposal which combines her interests in literacy and pre service teacher training. The topic is using photographs as a vehicle to develop and enhance pre service teachers' reflective practice. Her interests include children's literature, the use of trade books in elementary classrooms, and providing opportunities for elementary students to develop a passion for reading through embedded curriculum. Her interests in service learning include working with publishers to provide books for students in urban settings.

Amy Maynard writes: "As children learn to read and write, the role of the teacher can be critical. Educating future teachers allows me to share my love of working with children, and help instill in them a love of reading and writing that they will hopefully bring to their own classrooms."
