Jennifer L. Chakroff, Assistant Professor of Communication
Degrees: B.A., Michigan State University; M.A., Michigan State University; Ph.D., Ohio State University
Areas of specialization: Mass Media, Child Development, Parent-Child Communication

Jennifer Chakroff's teaching and research interests involve the social and psychological effects of the mass media. More specifically, her research lies at the intersection of mass media and interpersonal communication. In particular, she is interested in the effectiveness of active mediation strategies, which aim to reduce the unintended effects of advertising
and television violence on children at different
developmental levels.

Jennifer's work appears in the Journal of Communication, the Blackwell Handbook of Child Development and Media, and the Handbook of Research on Computer Mediated Communication. In addition, she has presented multiple papers at the annual meetings of the National Communication Association and the International Communication Association.

Prior to starting at Lasell College, Jennifer was awarded the International Communication Association's Graduate Student Teaching Award of Excellence. She firmly believes that teaching is a chance to help students reach their personal and professional goals. By continuing to find new ways to adapt to students' learning styles, Jennifer helps them apply what they learn in the classroom to what they experience outside of it.
