The Sport Management Department offers courses and majors in the areas of sports and physical activity, as well as a minor in Coaching, in conjunction with the Athletic Training and Exercise Science Department. Sport Management is involved with the management and organization of the whole sporting experience, and students are offered a variety of internship and Connected Learning opportunities while attending Lasell. Below are some of the opportunities Lasell Sport Management students have experienced.

Megan CullenSpotlight: Intern Megan Cullen '17

Major: Sport Management
Internship: Bay State Games

Tell us about your responsibilities:
Each day I start off by doing the finances for all of the registrations we get sent in on a day-to-day basis. I am responsible for six different sports: boys and girls soccer, girl’s lacrosse, swimming, diving, archery and baton twirling. For each of these sports I have to make sure we have coaches, equipment, officials, participants etc. I am the main contact for these sports and I have to attend each of these competitions when they compete.

What has been your favorite part of being an intern?
My favorite part of being an intern is being able to meet new people that are interested in the same thing I am and love being able to have the opportunity to be put in new environments and situations and learn from my peers. I also enjoy how I am trusted by my bosses with a lot of responsibility so I am always busy doing work.

What experiences at Lasell helped you prepare for this internship?
Doing my pre-practicum with the Lasell Athletic Department by doing game day staff was a very helpful experience. It gave me an insight on how sports games run behind the scenes.

Garrett UpsonSpotlight: Intern Garrett Upson '17

Major: Sport Management
Internship: Lowell Spinners

Tell us about your responsibilities:
Day to day responsibilities as an intern have been coming up with ideas for our promotional nights. I have learned how to operate the scoreboard, music system and video board. Just recently, our season began and the day to day responsibilities picked up. Also, I have participated in pre-game duties such as setting up tables, flags, mascots, and many other various duties. I have also been involved in the in game and post-game duties for the team.

What has been your favorite part of being an intern?
My favorite part of being an intern has been accomplishing all of my duties. I was a little bit nervous when I first started because there are many responsibilities and challenges. However, I feel I have settled in nicely, developing a routine of what has to be accomplished day to day whether it is pre-game, in game, or post-game.

What experiences at Lasell helped you prepare for this internship?
Experiences I have had at Lasell that have helped me prepare for this internship have been working as a student ambassador. As a student ambassador, I felt I gained better knowledge communicating with people and working diligently. I have given tours, done telemarketing, used the databases to enter information on high school students and participated in the many events that the Blue Key Society offered me. I feel by gaining experience with them and becoming better at public speaking, it has translated well to my internship with the Spinners.
