Deirdre Duddy-KennedySpotlight on: Intern Deirdre Duddy-Kennedy '16

Event Management
Internship:Pranzi Catering & Events

Tell us about your responsibilities.
My day-to-day responsibilities include research, organization and pulling for events during my time in the office. At events themselves I act as a coordinator and designate tasks to staff and oversee wedding ceremonies, receptions and event in general.

What is the atmosphere like?
The atmosphere in the office is very chaotic and busy with phones always ringing and a lot of communication. At actual events the tension is high, as there is so much pressure riding on the importance of the outcome.

What experiences at Lasell helped you prepare for this internship?
Planning Hospitality day was a huge contribution to the preparation and execution that I do on a daily basis. As well as my former job as an event manager for Lasell really promoted my leadership skills and ability to designate.

What was your favorite part of being an intern?
I love getting to do something that is complete based on experience. I am not in this for the money or for any reasons other than getting the chance to practice the things I love. It only attributes to my knowledge and resume while making connections.

Any favorite moments or memories at your internship?
One of my favorite moments was when my supervisor allowed me to run a ceremony myself with her supervision and sending my first bride down the isle was so special!

Other places our students have interned at include:

  • Boston Harbor Hotel
  • Mohegan Sun
  • Rafanelli Events
  • WGBH-TV
  • Live Nation
  • Hotel Indigo
  • Greater Boston Convention and Visitor's Bureau
  • Boston Marriott
  • The Newton/Needham Chamber of Commerce
  • Blackstone Valley Tourism Council
