What is your teaching philosophy for Lasell courses?
"I view the academic program in which the student is enrolled as a great foundation for the rest of their continued education as a lifelong learner in their profession. In short, it’s a good start. I encourage students to work from a place of curiosity and engage with awareness as they learn about their major but also about themselves. I feel that it is paramount that the classroom is a safe place to ask questions and explore potential. I enjoy seeing students grow not just in knowledge of course material but in how they view themselves as aspiring professionals. The students bring their own unique life experiences and abilities into the classroom and I see my role as affirming those abilities as well as challenging in the growth areas where they can further develop. As a practical person myself, I always seek to link the application of the material covered in the curriculum to a professional work situation.

My approach is tempered by the deep respect I have for the students and the courage that they exhibit in engaging in a process that is constantly challenging. As an instructor in higher education since 2001, I have seen many students struggling to complete assignments while working part-time or even full time jobs without the benefit of perspective and frame of reference that older adults might find helpful. I encourage the struggle and also encourage sensible limits with regards to their health.

In conclusion, I would say that my philosophy of teaching is holistic in nature and involves much observation, encouragement and sound curriculum implementation. I enjoy seeing the students gain familiarity and competence within their chosen field. Anything I can do to facilitate that process, I am more than willing to do."

President Alexander Responds to the Tragedy in Orlando  Thursday, June 16, 2016We the people of the United States cherish our freedoms. Whether it be the freedom to say what we want, to assemble in groups of our choosing, to follow the religions of our choice, to vote as our conscience demands, to own and carry weapons, to start new businesses and make money, and to move about as we please -- these are values we hold dear and are reluctant to compromise.
