Fashion Research Abroad

June 22rd | From Amanda & Sarah

June 22, 2014

We hopped on the bus at 9:30 this morning for our guided city tour with Oliver Roux and Peter Carman. They spoke to us of both historical and fashion facts of the city as we drove along. We were shown the luxury fashion shops of Paris such as Saint Laurent and Dries Van Noten. We then went on to see the different shopping areas of the city including the Champs-Élysées and the Golden Triangle. Linking fashion and history, we were also shown all the major sights of this exciting city- from the Luxembourg Gardens to the Eiffel tower. We stopped for lunch with a great view of the Eiffel Tower.

Then it was off to the famous Parisian flea market, which was a little drive out of the city. We explored the sections of the market browsing stores with items such as high-end antiques, furniture, clothing, jewelry and much more!

Rene, the curator and former model of Pierre CardinOur last stop of the day was the Pierre Cardin Mode and Design Museum. We were given a tour of the museum by Rene, the curator and former model of Pierre Cardin. His collections featured women’s clothing from the 1950s through contemporary times. His garments included structured outerwear, three dimensional dresses and geometric hats. The museum also contained furniture all designed by Mr. Cardin. He wanted it to be a place for young designers to come and be inspired. It certainly was an exciting environment!
