Alexa SholaSpotlight: Intern Alexa Shola '16

Major: Communication
Internship: Newport Gulls

Tell us about your responsibilities:
As an Assistant Media Operations Intern, I have many responsibilities on and off the playing field. I must attend meetings scheduled my supervisors and occasionally do office work. I also have to attend all home games and arrive early to help set up the video and audio equipment. On game days, I am either the field reporter, or a camera operator. When I am a field reporter, I conduct a pre-game interview with a player or coach of my choosing, and am responsible for live tweets on Twitter and pictures for Instagram. Lastly, as a camera operator, I film the pre-game and post-game interviews and the entire baseball game.

What has been your favorite part of being an intern?
My favorite part of being an intern has been interacting with the other interns. It is refreshing to speak to all of them and listen to their stories and life goals.

What experiences at Lasell helped you prepare for this internship?
Lasell helped me prepare for this internship by hosting COM Day. I would say out of all the experiences I have had at Lasell, this event has built my confidence in venturing out into life after college. It taught me how to network and prompted me to make myself a business card. Speaking with other people in my industry enabled me to see what employers are looking for resume wise, and what they like to see in employees.

Jillian SilbySpotlight: Intern Jillian Silby '16

Major: Communication, minor in Graphic Design
Internship: NewTV

Tell us about your responsibilities:
My day-to-day responsibilities as an intern include scheduling the educational channel, editing segments for the educational channel, and preparing possible news stories for “What’s the Word”, a kids news show.

What has been your favorite part of being an intern?
My favorite part about being an intern so far is that I am able to learn not only from my supervisor, but mostly from myself because of all the hands-on work I get to do. I am not afraid of making mistakes because I know I am still learning and making mistakes is the best way to learn!

What experiences at Lasell helped prepare you for your internship?
The experiences I have had being involved in Lasell College Television have prepared me for the internship because I felt very comfortable jumping right into using the cameras as well as the editing software. I had a lot of practice doing shoots for clubs at Lasell and even outside organizations.
