Children's Library Booklist
Children’s literature is a significant element in children’s learning, geared to gaining a better understanding of how life works. There is evidence of ageism in children’s books, and ageist attitudes in children as young as four years old. To counter these views, the Fuss Center provides readers with a selection of children’s literature aimed to increase children’s appreciation of various aspects of aging and intergenerational relations. These books were selected based on their meaningful portrayals of age, positive depictions of intergenerational relations, images of diversity, and realistic story lines. Sharing these books with children provides varied opportunities for them to generate positive attitudes towards age.
The Association for Gerontology in Higher Education presented awards to these children’s authors for their positive portrayals of older adults in their books.
